What We Do

“A classic that deserves national acclaim and preservation, McCarthy’s proclaims itself as pub, restaurant and undertaker (“we’ll wine you, dine you and bury you”), though not necessarily in that order(making it an efficient set-up for wakes). Closely spaced wooden booths and tables wedge between an astonishing thicket of treasures dating back to 1840 under a wood panelled ceiling''

ABOUT

Established by Richard McCarthy in the 1840’s McCarthy’s Hotel provided the services of a spirit merchant, restaurant, hotel, undertaker, draper, grocer, baker, hackney service, glass, delph and china shop and if you still couldn't get what you want - hire a few horses to take you elsewhere. Continuing in this tradition the present proprietor, Vincent Murphy (Jasper) fifth generation, has a pub, restaurant and undertaker business which he runs with his family.

While we have all the mar or beer brands on tap, we also have the only beer produced in Co Tipperary on tap as well, from the White Gypsy Brewery in Templemore.

What Our Clients Are Saying

"Lovely oldworld pub, that has an bucket loads of character! We started with a pint as they were pretty busy with the lunch time rush. A table became available after 20 minutes and three of us opted for the steak sandwich, one for the beef special and one for the chicken curry. We were all impressed."
